EI maternity benefits
Canada.ca lists maternity benefits at up to 15 weeks for the person who is pregnant or recently gave birth, at 55% of earnings up to $729 per week.
Parental benefit options
Standard parental benefits can be shared for up to 40 weeks at 55% up to $729 weekly. Extended parental benefits can be shared for up to 69 weeks at 33% up to $437 weekly.
Eligibility basics
Canada.ca notes that regular weekly earnings must decrease by more than 40% for at least one week and that 600 insured hours are generally required in the qualifying period.
Prenatal supplement reminder
Public Health Agency of Canada guidance recommends a daily multivitamin with 400 mcg, or 0.4 mg, of folic acid for anyone who could become pregnant.
